Eimear-Murphy14th March 2013

We are proud and delighted to announce that Eimear Murphy, who has been a valued medical volunteer with Facing the World since the Charity’s inception in 2002, has been selected as a finalist in the Charity Staff and Volunteers Awards, 2013.

Eimear is a highly-respected Plastic Surgery Nurse Consultant, and she and her team of nurse specialists look after our patients during their recuperation. As Nurse Consultant in Plastic Surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Eimear works alongside many of the surgeons who also give their time and skills to Facing the World. In addition to her duties to her day job, she is the first medical contact point for all of our patients, and as such is always on hand to give advice or reassurances to the children and their parents at all hours of day and night. Her commitment to patients extends far beyond the time she finishes work.

In her own time and on top of her existing work load, Eimear also facilitates medical appointments and procedures for Facing the World at Chelsea and Westminster hospital. She always put the needs of our patients first and takes the time to talk through any concerns with the children and their parents.

Eimear’s commitment to helping people isn’t solely limited to Facing the World’s patients. She has volunteered with the British Hand Society in Sierra Leone and has also been to Pakistan, in 2005, and Haiti, in 2010, to provide emergency nursing care following the catastrophic earthquakes the country suffered. In 2013 Eimear is taking a sabbatical from her job at Chelsea and Westminster to become our in-country Project Co-ordinator in Vietnam. She is undertaking this role on a voluntary basis and she will be fundamental to our plan to help Da Nang General Hospital become a centre of expertise in craniofacial surgery.  Find out more here.

The Charity Staff & Volunteers Awards celebrate outstanding dedication and achievements made by charity staff and volunteers across the UK. The Awards are organised by The Charity Staff Foundation, which is the only charity providing dedicated support to people who work or volunteer in the charity sector.

The 2013 Charity Staff and Volunteers Awards ceremony will take place in London on the 7th March. We all wish Eimear the best of luck.
